Due to the summer months and central heating fleas can be an all year round problem.

Treating your pet with a spot on treatment is advised alongside a household spray. Fleas have a lifecycle where they live both on the pet and in the environment.

By the time you notice fleas on your pet there is already an infestation of pre-adult fleas in your home. One female flea can lay up to 50 eggs in a day. Spot-on flea treatments for pets may not be sufficient on their own to eliminate the infestation in your home.

Acclaim is an ideal household spray that kills fleas fast

  • Prevents – existing eggs and larvae becoming adult fleas.
  • Lasts for 12 months – prevents re-infestation by breaking the flea life cycle.
  • Safe – Acclaim is safe to use for your family, your house and your pets.
  • Protects an entire 4 bedroom house.

Using Acclaim

  • Remove all pets and children from the room being treated.
  • Vacuum thoroughly.
  • Close all windows and doors and spray all floors, carpets, exposed floor boards, soft furnishings, cracks and crevices with a sweeping action, holding the can at knee height.
  • Leave Acclaim to settle for about 30 minutes then open all windows and doors until the surfaces are dry to the touch.
  • Vacuum every other day to encourage pupae to hatch.

Hints and tips

  • Fleas living under exposed floorboards can be difficult to treat and hatching may be prolonged.
  • When an infestation is established, adult fleas may be seen for weeks following spraying. This is because the existing pupae must hatch before they can be killed. This is normal and Acclaim will still be working.
  • When the heating is turned up, or an unused room is disturbed, dormant fleas can be activated.
  • Human bedding and clothing does not need to be treated. A warm wash will kill the eggs and larvae.
  • Remember to treat the whole house, the car and any outbuildings the pet has access to.
  • All flea treatments are toxic to reptiles and fish! Ensure fish tanks and vivarium’s are appropriately covered, or removed before treatment commences.

At Mr Pets we recommend the use of a spot on flea treatment alongside a household spray.
